Do not drive under the influence of drugs: UAE public prosecution with warning

Abu Dhabi: The UAE Public Prosecution has issued a warning to those driving under the influence of drugs on the country’s roads. The prosecution warned that those who cause road accidents by driving under the influence of drugs, including official prescriptions from a doctor, will not be exempted from the law.

The UAE Public Prosecution pointed out that those who cause accidents due to intoxication following the consumption of such drugs cannot avoid the responsibility of the crime. According to Article 49, Clause 6 of the ‘1995/21’ law relating to traffic laws in the UAE, driving or attempting to drive vehicles on the road under the influence of alcohol or intoxicants is an offense punishable by a fine of AED 20,000 and imprisonment.
