The domestic finished car industry is enjoying a boom in global sales. In particular, Kia sold 1,575,920 units in the first half of this year, recording the highest sales performance in the first half of the year since its foundation.

According to the industry on the 3rd, the sales volume of the five domestic automakers, including Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility, in the first half of this year was 2,058,385 units, up 12.05% from the same period last year.

Hyundai Motor’s global sales volume in the second quarter was 1,060,519 units, up 8.62% from the same period last year. Hyundai Motor sold 855,016 units in the domestic market thanks to the effects of the recently launched Grandeur and Kona, an increase of about 12.7%.

In the first half of the year, Hyundai Motor sold a total of 2,081,468 units in domestic and overseas markets, a 10.8% increase from the same period last year (1,879,041 units).

Kia recorded global sales of 804,720 units in the second quarter of this year, including 150,363 units in the domestic market and 654,357 units overseas, a 9.76% increase from the same period last year. Thanks to the rising sales, Kia recorded 1,575,920 units in sales in the first half of the year, the highest ever. This is the highest performance since 1,546,850 units in the first half of 2014.

In the first half, Sportage sold the most with 260,485 units, followed by Celltos (157,188 units) and Sorento (115,644 units).

From January to June this year, GM Korea sold 18,984 units in domestic sales and 195,322 units in exports, recording an increase of 8.2% and 85.7% year-on-year, respectively.

KG Mobility sold a total of 65,145 units in the first half, including 38,969 units in domestic sales and 26,176 units in exports, an increase of 36.5% compared to the same period last year.

Renault Korea sold 64,847 units in the first half (12,270 domestic and 52,577 exports), down 14.8% from the same period last year (76,156 units).
