The American news channel CNN and its longtime presenter Don Lemon are going their separate ways. The station boss Chris Licht wrote on Monday in a memo to the employees, which was also published on Twitter. A reason for the decision was not given. The moderator spoke of a dismissal by his employer.
“I was informed by my agent this morning that I was fired from CNN,” Lemon shared. “I am shocked.” After 17 years at CNN he would have expected someone in management to have had the decency to speak to him directly. He was not even hinted that he could not continue his work at the station. He could still be seen in the morning with his show “CNN This Morning”. CNN thanked Lemon for his performance over the past few years and wished him well.
Lemon caused outrage several times with comments
In mid-February, Lemon caused outrage when, in a discussion with his co-hosts about the age of politicians, he said that 51-year-old Republican presidential candidate Nikki was not “in her prime.” A woman is in her prime in her 20s, 30s and maybe in her 40s. When his colleagues disagreed, he explained that these were facts. He later apologized for his statement, which Haley called sexist. Lemon was off the air for three days but returned to screens afterwards.
