Family festival and summer vacation camps
St.Pölten (OTS) – The family festival in the National Park Center Schloss Orth an der Donau will take place this year on Mother’s Day, May 14th, and is dedicated to the topic “Mother’s Day in the Animal Kingdom”: In many animals, the females, guided by maternal instinct, take over the intensive care of the offspring, but there are also some ways in which the fathers help. They, too, are brought in front of the curtain when Mother’s Day is celebrated in Orth with a diverse indoor and outdoor program, with music and culinary delights together with the national park ranger team.
The program from 10 am to 6 pm includes information, play and handicraft stations on species of birds that nest on gravel, the imperial eagle, beavers, European pond turtles, snakes and wild bees. There is also a riddle rally, a competition, children’s stations, ranger shows, castle island tours and, last but not least, the opportunity to visit the exhibitions “DonAUräume” and “From Acker und Au – a journey through time with Crown Prince Rudolf to the land of the Donau-Auen”, the museumORTH and the Orth spiral staircase. In July and August, national park holiday camps will be offered again at the Meierhof in Eckartsau. Accompanied by the national park ranger team, the children can look forward to an eventful week full of new experiences in the river landscape, including journeys of discovery into the wilderness, getting to know flora and fauna, boat trips on the oxbow lake, romantic campfires in the evening and overnight stays in large tents. The Donau-Auen holiday camp for children between the ages of ten and 14 takes place from July 9th to 14th and from July 23rd to 28th, the Nature English camp for children with an English focus from July 16th to 21st as well from July 30th to August 4th.
