Donny Roelvink has not yet made any statements regarding the specific reason(s) for his switch to Islam. A few months ago he told media maker Salaheddine that he has always been interested in Islam. When Roelvink suffered from testicular cancer, his interest in Islam grew, he says. Before his operation, he asked his Muslim friend to make Dua (supplication) for him.
Father Dries Roelvink has previously indicated that he is happy that his sons Donny and Dave have an above-average interest in Islam. Dries himself did not raise his children religiously. He hopes that with the help of Islam, his sons will not be as afraid of death as he is.
