DRC-Angola regional integration: Mbusa Nyamwisi listens to the grievances of the road transport inter-union

Kinshasa, March 14, 2024 – The professional road transport inter-union of the DRC presented, Thursday March 14, to the Minister of Regional Integration Mbusa Nyamwisi its grievances concerning the lack of cooperation structure between traders from the DRC and the Angola in order to improve the business climate. This face-to-face meeting comes, it must be said, after the November tripartite meeting held following their strike.

In their discussions, the president of the professional road transport inter-union of the DRC, André Tshikoji, noted some difficulties encountered by road hauliers on both sides.

On the Congolese side, the problem is deep, they are subject to visas whose obtaining time is exaggerated 2 to 3 months of waiting, the refusal of Congolese drivers of trucks transporting goods to enter Angola while the Angolans in the DRC obtain visas at the border and can move freely from Lufu to Kikwit.

The principle of reciprocity between border countries is not applied, the non-respect of the border access perimeter by trucks coming from Angola, the 30km inside must benefit Congolese transporters.

The Angolans, for their part, complain of paying exorbitant amounts when they are in transit, for example from Noki to Kabinda and tolls at all levels.

The DRC Road Transport Association has asked the Minister of State responsible for African Affairs to implement a framework for bilateral discussions to propose suitable solutions to this problem.

After listening to the transporters, Mbusa Nyamwisi promised to get involved as part of his responsibilities in resolving these problems which affect several sectors. Question of making transactions easier for them.
