DRC: Felix Tshisekedi re-elected for a second term

2023-12-31 15:50:08

Unsurprisingly, the outgoing president, Félix Tshisekedi, handily won the race for the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Electoral Commission announced a resounding victory with 73.34% of the votes.

At the end of the single-round vote, the outgoing president is ahead of the former governor of Katanga, Moïse Katumbi (18.08%), Martin Fayulu (5.33%) and the former Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito (1, 12%).

Before the publication of the results, the opposition denounced multiple irregularities and demanded the cancellation of the vote.

The DRC is an unstable country in the grip of a rebellion in the North Kivu region where the M23, supported by neighboring Rwanda, is active.
