Kinshasa, March 1, 2024 – “Great figures of the Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the DRC” is the name of the book written by Catherine Kathungu Furaha carried at the baptismal font, Thursday February 29, in the Capitole room of Rotana hotel. This ceremony took place in the presence of the preface of the work, the Prime Minister, Jean Michel Sama Lukonde. He also had the merit of baptizing him.

The Head of Government recommended to any intellectual Congolese, to take ownership of this intellectual work.

“We have placed culture and art within the Government under the directives of the President of the Republic as one of the main pillars to build a Congo wanted by all. We also wanted to have a special touch by adding this heritage theme. Heritage is what we leave to future generations or better, inheritance,” highlighted Sama Lukonde.

The author of this extremely rich work, Catherine Kathungu Furaha, thanked the Prime Minister for his contribution and especially his availability to preface this heritage for the Congolese cultural and artistic sector.

Catherine Kathungu Furaha also thanked her leader Vital Kamerhe, the moral authority of the UNC (Union National Congolaise) political party where she is an executive, for having postscripted her book and for helping to make it more expensive. Wanting to leave her mark during her career as Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Catherine Kathungu Furaha reveals where the initiative to write this book came from.

“It is only a human work. Nevertheless, I consider for my part that I have made a substantial contribution to the preservation of the memory of great figures of the artistic heritage of our culture. Indeed, the initiative for writing this book came to me the day after my arrival at the head of the large Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage where I discovered and noted the greatness and the cardinal position that culture in our dear and beautiful country, the Democratic Republic of Congo. I discovered that the Congo has great wealth that is sometimes ignored thanks to only the minerals diamond, gold, cobalt, copper, lithium…The Congo must keep in its collective consciousness that it has culture among the elements of its identity worldwide”, she indicated.

The writer Cathy suggested to the audience that her book draws its meaning from the vision of the Head of State Félix Antoine Tshisekedi to whom she expressed thanks and whom she considers to be a human heritage to be protected.

Married to Doctor Kanyamanda Paluku John, Catherine Kathungu Furaha made a special mention to her husband who was an important support in the creation of her masterpiece.
