Drone at Frankfurt Airport: Flight operations have been suspended

2023-09-29 07:58:38

The largest German airport had to stop operations completely for 40 minutes, as a spokeswoman for the operator Fraport said Friday morning. The drone was first spotted shortly after 8 p.m., after which there were no more take-offs. After a second sighting, operations were stopped completely between 8:30 p.m. and 9:10 p.m.

There were still effects on Friday, as the spokeswoman said. Fraport reported 20 canceled flights on Thursday evening, but it was unclear whether all of them were due to the drone. There were also numerous delays; the spokeswoman could not give an exact number. Some flights have been postponed to this Friday. The airport operator called on passengers to check the status of their flight and come to the airport early. Due to increased passenger volumes, there may be longer waiting times.
