Dust storm in Saudi; Meteorological Department warns to be vigilant

The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. Civil defense officials said motorists should be extra careful. Temperatures are expected to drop in most parts of Saudi Arabia.

Strong dust storms are expected in Al Qasim, Riyadh, Hail, Al Jawf, eastern provinces of the country, northern border areas, Azir, Najran, Makkah, Madinah, Jeezan and Al Baha. The Met Office has warned of strong winds and thundershowers in many parts of the country. The highlands of Al Baha and Azir will experience heavy snowfall.

Temperatures in Tabuk, Al Jawf, the northern border region and the Hail region will hover between one and six degrees Celsius. The height of the Red Sea waves will be one and a half to two and a half meters in the north, three meters in the middle and one to two meters in the south, the Meteorological Department said.

The Center has warned that surface winds in the Red Sea will increase. The surface wind speed will be 30 to 60 kmph in the north-western parts and 20 to 30 kmph in the southern parts.
