Dutch body accuses Apple of violating European Union laws on the App Store

Information released this Tuesday (31) by Bloomberg reveals that the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), an antitrust body in the Netherlands, accuses Apple of violating European Union (EU) rules with the fees imposed by the North American company regarding transactions made in the App Store, the application store for iOS and iPadOS systems.

According to the report, the Cupertino giant would be charging lower fees for apps that do not offer users subscription services, while developers that offer a plan or purchase option suffer from higher fees in the store, pointing to possible unfair competition and violation of EU standards.

Apple would not have informed the reason for this difference in charging fees, thereby significantly increasing the expenses of companies that offer a subscription in their applications. Recently, Apple reduced the fee charged on App Store transactions from 30% to 27%, but this change is still not enough, according to ACM.

Faced with the accusation from the regulatory body, Apple has the possibility of going to court questioning the accusations or, if it wishes, implementing changes that resolve the points highlighted by the Authority for Consumers and Markets. Apple has not yet taken a position on the case, but it is possible that this will happen soon.
