After a 100% virtual edition in 2021, E3 has made the decision to cancel its event entirely in 2022, both on the web and in person.

In an email sent Thursday to IGN, the organization behind the traditional video game fair, the ESA, has confirmed the rumor. This has been spreading rapidly since a tweet sent earlier this afternoon by Razer’s chief corporate publicist, Will Powers, who claimed the rendezvous would not take place in 2022.
“We will be devoting all of our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital experience next summer. Whether experienced from the floor of the event or on your favorite devices, the 2023 show will once again bring together the community, the media and the industry in an all-new format and an interactive experience”, states the missive sent to the American website.
In doing so, the ESA confirms that a 2023 edition will indeed take place and that the 2022 appointment has been completely canceled to focus on the next show which will take place in person.
Remember that the organization that oversees the high mass of video games had already announced last January that the 2022 edition would not take place in person due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, the ESA had all the same hinted at the possibility of an appointment in a digital format, as in 2021. However, this will not be the case.
In a very funny coincidence, it’s worth noting that host Geoff Keighley confirmed almost simultaneously this afternoon on Twitter that his own event gaming virtual, the Summer Game Fest, would be held again in June for a third edition.
Well, well, that’s what we call having a sense of timing…
