“E40/A3 Resurfacing Update: Timetable Changes and Traffic Conditions on Walloon Motorway Network”

2023-05-10 12:04:00

The timetable for the resurfacing work on the E40/A3 from Battice to Welkenraedt, which began on April 12, must be reviewed, said Sofico, manager of the Walloon motorway network, on Wednesday. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the current phase between the Battice interchange (E40/A3-E42/A27) and Thimister-Clermont, in the direction towards Aachen will be extended. Crews hope to have adequate weather conditions by the end of May to complete work on the first phase, which was originally scheduled to end on May 13.

The traffic conditions currently in force therefore remain the same until the end of May (subject to favorable weather conditions). Traffic remains maintained on a traffic lane only towards Aachen. The maximum speed remains limited to 70 km/h. Not enough to rejoice motorists who take this section or the Herviens, some roads are overloaded following the construction site.

The next phase relating to the resurfacing of the E40/A3 between Thimister-Clermont and Welkenraedt towards Aachen will begin immediately after. The dates of this phase will be communicated later.

During this phase:

Towards Aachen, traffic will be maintained on one lane (switched in the opposite direction on the lanes usually welcoming traffic towards Liège) with a maximum speed limited to 70 km/h. Users will not be able to take interchange No. 37 Thimister-Clermont. They will be diverted via the next interchange.

Towards Brussels, users will travel on a traffic lane (right lane) with a maximum speed limited to 70 km/h.
