Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller is leading a group of investors who want to create an expansion team in MLB in the coming years, ESPN reported.
The group is called “Big Utah”, which is made up of the “Larry H. Miller Company”, several local investors and former Major Leaguers such as Dale Murphy and Jeremy Guthrie, who live in Utah.
Salt Lake City is one of the cities that are included among the candidates to host MLB teams in the future, joining Nashville, Portland, Oregon, Charlotte and North Carolina.

“Salt Lake City group leaders highlighted a market larger than four current major league teams: San Diego, Kansas City, Cincinnati and Milwaukee. They emphasized significant growth in Utah, as its population of about 3.3 million increased by a higher percentage than any other state between 2010 and 2020. On top of that, it has one of the strongest economies in America.”explains Jeff Passan in his report.
Commissioner Rob Manfred said in July that he would love to have 32 teams in the MLB, but first there would have to be ironed out issues at the home sites of the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays, which have threatened to move in the future.
