It was April 2021 when I went to my family doctor once more for what is known as a dermatoscopy, an examination for the early detection of cancer. A precautionary appointment. Pure routine. I actually wanted to postpone it because I assumed everything was fine anyway. As always.

But this time my doctor didn’t dismiss me with the usual “Have a nice summer!” He had discovered a mole that struck him as suspicious.
