Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis, during a speech on April 28 at the Delphi Economic Forum, proposed covering 15% of the EU’s natural gas needs with energy resources from the Eastern Mediterranean.

“There are no such volumes that could completely replace Russian natural gas, but there are definitely such volumes that can mitigate the dependence of the European Union on the Russian Federation,” said Mr. Christodoulides (quoted from “RIA Novosti»).

He cited expert estimates, according to which 15-16% of the EU’s needs in the next 25 years can be covered by the energy resources of the Eastern Mediterranean. In this regard, he called on the EU authorities for “more technical and financial support”, noting that European investments are already in the region.
