In the previous season, Asiago was a new addition to the league – the blue-whites’ record against the Italians is absolutely positive: the “Eagles” have won three of the four previous encounters. In the current season, the guests still had problems at the start: after four league games with four defeats, they are in last place in the table and have only scored two goals so far, goal difference -11. Nevertheless, EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV head coach Rob Daum warns: “There are no easy games in this league. If you slack off just a little, you’ll quickly find yourself on the losing road. We have to perform like we did in the last two home games, then we can get the three points against Asiago.” Speaking of defeat: The coach has already ticked off the 4:3 in overtime against the Vienna Capitals: “We showed morale after a two-goal deficit, fought back and got an away point.”
Anthony Luciani is someone who has come into really good shape in the last few games and is doing what he does best, namely scoring. Most recently against the Capitals in Vienna, the dangerous winger gave his calling card to Vienna goalie Stefan Steen twice and was already responsible for a total of four scorer points (including three goals) in the first four games. He also ranks at the top of the league with a scoring efficiency of almost 43 percent (three goals from seven shots on goal). He clearly feels comfortable in the attack line with Alexander Rauchwald and Maximilian Rebernig: “Alex Rauchwald is a super center with great playmaking qualities, and Maxi Rebernig brings the necessary physical presence to our line and is also a goal threat. We harmonize really well, it’s a lot of fun to play together with them in the same line.”
Luciani still has a score to settle against his former team – he played for Asiago in the Italian league in the 2015 season and scored 13 goals and 20 assists in 20 games. In three matches against the Italians in the previous season he was denied a goal. He definitely wants to do it again tomorrow. And that despite the fact that he always scored extremely well against teams from his grandparents’ homeland: he scored no less than ten points in the games against Bolzano and Pustertal in the previous season and even scored a hat trick against Bolzano in February: “It has to happen change against Asiago, preferably tomorrow. But what’s more important is that we win as a team. We can’t take the match lightly. Any team can beat anyone in this league. So: Full concentration on the match, then we’ll get the three points.”
For the Blue-Whites, head coach Rob Daum still has to do without the convalescents Layne Viveiros, Kevin Hancock and Marco Richter. Hancock and Viveiros returned to team training today. Further examinations will be carried out today on Marco Richter (upper body injury).
