Basheer, 78, was active in the choir till the end, despite his age and disabilities. After completing the Gana Bhushanam course in 1972, the singer Edava Basheer became an active presence in the choirs. While studying, he went to sing in choirs. Edava Basheer has sung with actress Mallika Sukumara in many venues. Edava Basheer will be playing the lead role in the film ‘Raghuvansham’ with S Janaki composing the music under the music direction of AT Ummer.

The song ‘Azhithiramalakal Azhakinte Malakal’ sung by KJ Joy in the movie ‘Mukuvane Snehichha Bhootham’ with Vanijayaram was taken over by the art lovers. With this, the parish sought more opportunities from Basheer. But most of them greeted him and sent him back. He made such a tough decision because he could not stay away from the choirs singing in front of music lovers.

‘Kollam Sangeethalaya’ which was later started by Parish Basheer in Varkala was one of the largest choir troupes in Kerala at that time. The troupe received many venues inside and outside Kerala. Leading singers of the day like S Janaki and P Susheela sang on stage with Parish Basheer for the music hall. Today’s famous music director Ouseppachan started his career as a violinist in a music academy. The Sangeethalaya Choir Troupe was inaugurated by Sakshal KJ Yesudas. Yesudas was the founder of the music recording studio in Kollam in 1996.

The songs of Yesudas and Mohammad Rafi were sung at the concert venues. Edava Basheer’s choir life was busier than playback singers at that time. He sang in several venues in one day. It was a journey from stage to stage. Parish Basheer has performed with the Sangeethalaya not only in Kerala but also in the United States, Canada and the Gulf countries.

Since Bashir’s father Abdul Aziz was in Singapore, the state – of – the – art musical instruments brought from there made the concert’s choir even more different. Instruments such as the accordion were performed at the concerts. Basheer was the first to bring Yamaha’s synthesizer, mixer, Echo, Roland’s CR78 composer and Jupiter 4 to the concert stage.
