In a speech at the Cairo Peace Summit, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that the Palestinian cause cannot be eliminated without a just solution and that Egypt will never allow it to be sacrificed.

President Sissi clearly and unambiguously affirmed the will of the Egyptian people never to abandon the Palestinian cause unjustly. He declared: “I want to affirm to the whole world, in a sincere manner, the will of every Egyptian: ending the Palestinian cause without a just solution is absolutely impossible, and it will never be done at the expense of Egypt.” .

The president also stressed that Egypt did not close the Rafah border crossing, but that Israeli bombings hampered the delivery of aid to Gaza. He announced that he had agreed with US President Joe Biden to allow a sustainable passage to Rafah, under the supervision of the United Nations, UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East) and the Palestinian Red Crescent, in order to distribute aid and relief to the population of the Gaza Strip.

“The solution to the catastrophic humanitarian crisis facing the 2.5 million Palestinians in Gaza can only be achieved with the help of the United Nations,” President Sisi said.

He then emphasized that the only solution to the Palestinian cause is justice, with Palestinians achieving their legitimate right to self-determination and living in an independent state on their own land. He reiterated that Egypt strongly opposes the forced displacement or relocation of Palestinians from Gaza to Sinai, as this would aim to eliminate the Palestinian cause.

President Sisi called for the adoption of a road map to resolve the Palestinian cause, which would include humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, a de-escalation of violence, a ceasefire and a restart of the peace process. peace to achieve a two-state solution. He also called for working closely with the Palestinian Authority to achieve this solution.

The Egyptian Peace Summit was held in the country’s new administrative capital, with significant international participation in an effort to find a solution to the ongoing violence in Gaza, which has already claimed more than 4,137 Palestinian lives and injured 13 000 more.

The appeal made by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during Egypt’s National Security Council was met with international acclaim and praise, particularly given the continued escalation of violence in Gaza and the continued suffering of the Palestinian people.
