THE Indonesian Travel Companies ASSOCIATION (Asita) hopes that the 2024 Eid holiday can stimulate the tourism sector in the country. The 10-day holiday (April 6-15) is expected to contribute up to 15% to the sector’s growth.

“The long holiday schedule gives people more freedom to carry out homecoming and tourism activities. We don’t know what percentage the increase will be, but we expect an increase of between 10-15%,” said Deputy Chairperson of Asita Budijanto Ardiansjah when contacted, Friday (12/4).

He believes this increase in contribution will occur if we refer to the projected number of homecoming travelers which is estimated to reach 193.6 million people. Budijanto also estimates that tourism will increase in a number of favorite cities and destinations.

The favorite tourist destinations are Bali, Yogyakarta and its surroundings, the Greater Bandung area, Greater Bogor, Labuan Bajo, Lombok, and the Batu area, Malang. These areas, said Budijanto, are the main destinations if there is a long holiday.

According to him, the large number of homecoming travelers and long holiday periods will also have a knock-on impact on the economy in the relevant areas.

“Economic contributions will definitely occur if tourists shop at the tourist destinations they visit, so the domino impact, especially on MSMEs, will also be large,” concluded Budjanto. (Z-8)
