“Eid-ul-Fitr Moon Sighting: Expert Astronomers Provide Scientific Clarification”

2023-04-20 14:30:55

Abu Dhabi: IAC says Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be on Saturday. It is announced that the month of Shawwal will not be visible to the naked eye today, marking the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr. 25 astronomers from 13 Arab countries jointly announce this.

Astronomers expressed their opinion on whether moonrise will be visible on Thursday, April 20, 2023, marking the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr. Commenting on the matter is not intended to decide the exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr. Experts also opined that monthly birth depends on many factors, including the specific region and scientific considerations. Astronomers also said that the statement aims to provide scientific clarification on the appearance of moonrise.

After sunset, the moon rises in the sky only for a short time. This type of lunar presence is not reliable evidence of being visible to the naked eye following sunset. The astronomical team pointed out that the atmosphere, the position of the moon in its orbit and the angle between the moon and the sun are factors that determine the appearance of the moonrise.
