Death from Thuringia is back with its 16th studio album. Ice rain have been delighting the masses for decades and are on the move, even with their latest release frontier workers to cause a stir.

In addition to the album, there is a second CD with the song cycle A year in the life of deathwhich is supposed to be reminiscent of a title from the past.

Wonderfully morbid, that’s how we like it

Even if you could follow the stylistic change of the band step by step in the last decades, individual details will probably never change. So there is the intro outpost nothing more than footstep noises, which are slowly accompanied by dark-looking synthesizers. To round off the introduction, there are a few war noises before the almost typical siren sounds, which has been around since the legendary KK album keeps popping up. From here there is a smooth transition to the opener and title track frontier workersthe advance HERE has been published. As usual for the band, we’re staying in the mid-tempo range here, which brings a catchy groove. The voice of the master himself does the rest to fully exploit the hit potential.

It is quite different with In pieces. Thematically, they move much more clearly in the gore area and apart from the clean, slow chorus, the pedals are almost continuously pedaled like crazy. The woman in the tower seems like a ballad. The conclusion of the first part takes part revenantthe one yourself HERE can listen to, again a title in the mid-tempo segment, which mainly convinces with its catchiness.

Another year in the life of death

As already mentioned, the second CD contains the song cycle A year in the life of deathwhich, despite the rather clear title, has less to do with the legendary color eclipse titles in common than one might suspect.

Even if titles like carcass spring or Blood summer Reminiscent of the band’s early works in terms of tempo or melodies, this should be a very unique concept. Still, you don’t have to hide the fact that one or the other band would have released these five tracks separately as an EP instead of just giving them to the loyal fan.

Conclusion
Ice rain dash with their new release frontier workers probably again unstoppable in the direction of chart placement. The album continues the musical development that the band has taken in the last 20 years and with the bonus CD the older audience should be put in a good mood. Solid craftsmanship. 8 / 10
