Indonesian men’s weightlifting athlete Eko Yuli Irawan continues to maximize efforts to fully recover from a knee injury during his training camp for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“The next three months (before the 2024 Paris Olympics), I will maximize my recovery (from a leg injury) and technical maturation,” said Eko at the weightlifting training camp location at Mess Kwini, Jakarta, Friday (26/4).

He admitted that he often experienced injuries during preparation for the Olympics which made him feel strange, such as a hamstring injury during the 2028 Beijing Olympics and a fractured shin during the 2012 London Olympics.

Apart from that, there was a knee injury during preparations for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, another obstacle during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which took place in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as a knee injury during preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“So, every Olympics, there are obstacles, but yes we have to overcome them and thank God we have been able to overcome them so far and hopefully this time we can do more than that,” he said.

The athlete, who often contributed silver and bronze medals in five Olympic sessions, said that he felt grateful because the recovery from his knee injury was currently progressing quite well or in terms of presentation it was already around 70%.

He believes that in the next few months, before the 2024 Paris Olympics, his injury condition will have completely recovered so that he will be able to perform optimally in the world’s highest competition.

“So don’t let this moment of recovery disappear so that the time comes when you can be ready to perform,” he said. (Ant/Z-1)
