The results of the Sierra Leonean presidential election which took place on June 24, 2023, at the same time as the legislative and municipal elections have been released. Julius Maada Bio candidate for a second term won with 56.17% of the vote against 41.16% for Samura Kamara, who came in second position.

Unsuccessful candidate, Kamara “categorically rejects” the results proclaimed by the electoral commission which he considers not “credible” and “impartial”.

“I will rise above this travesty and pledge to continue the fight for a better Sierra Leone,” added the unsuccessful candidate without saying what he really intends to do.

A 59-year-old former soldier, Julius Maada Bio was sworn in on Tuesday for his second term as head of the country, following the announcement of the results. “Dear Sierra Leonean friends, I am extremely, humbly and immensely grateful for your overwhelming vote of confidence, as evidenced by my victory and that of the SLPP in the multi-level elections which have just concluded.

This victory is for Sierra Leone, as we have once again demonstrated that although our languages, our tribes and tribes and our political beliefs, we are united in our desire to see the country we love, Sierra Leone.

There is no winner or loser in this election. But, Sierra Leoneans of different politics, united in our desire for economic growth, social progress and love of our social progress and love of our nation, even as we choose to achieve our desires through different paths.

Therefore, I congratulate all the candidates who participated in the election and I humbly extend my hand to the leaders of all political parties and their members to join us in our national development efforts. Together, we will transform our nation into a beacon of progress and prosperity,” reacted Maada Bio on Twitter.
