Leasing at 100 euros per month is a system put in place by the government to allow low-income households to acquire an electric vehicle. A plan that has met with great success in several car dealerships.

This new system, desired by the French President, is reserved for 50% of the lowest-income households with a reference income less than or equal to 15,400 euros per year. 4 to 5 million people are affected. This system will be dedicated to workers who drive more than 8,000 km per year, as well as to residents who live more than 15 km from their workplace.

« The government is increasing its support for clean mobility for households who need a vehicle for their professional journeys », Indicates the Ministry of the Economy. However, the first electric cars have not yet been delivered to their owners. Since December, future buyers have been able to pre-register with car dealerships.

The number of requests for electric vehicles is exploding

Requests are exploding, there have been more than 80,000 since January 1, 2024, indicates actu.fr. “ I spoke with other dealers all over France, there are up to 1,000 requests per day. It is enormous ! », Explains Nicolas Toulorge, manager of the Ford dealership in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

Consequently, the threshold of 20,000 electric cars announced by the government has largely been exceeded. “ Currently, we are still pre-registering customers who meet the necessary conditions for social leasing. But we don’t know if the state will put more cars on the market under these conditions or if their requests will be refused. We are a little in the dark », Explains Alexandre Lecadet, manager at Opel in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

Leasing of 100 euros per month offers a great chance to low-income households to acquire an electric vehicle. However, not all dealerships can offer it. For good reason, the vehicles concerned must have batteries manufactured in Europe. “ These are the same conditions as to have the ecological bonus », recalls Eric Brisson, from Citroën.

For households that do not meet the necessary conditions to have access, leasing is nevertheless possible. “ This represents 80% of my sales », Indicates Nicolas Toulorge, from Ford. “ This is 75% of my sales », assures Alexandre Lecadet, from Opel. For dealers, this option allows the customer to drive “ without worrying about repairs or resale of the vehicle ».
