The parliamentary coordinator of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Elías Rescala Jiménez was elected -unanimously- as president of the Political Coordination Board of the LXI Legislature, replacing the Morenista Maurilio Hernández.

With only the deputies of the National Action Party absent, the PRI protested as head of the highest legislative body, a position that will last one year, concluding on March 7, 2024.

Now, the JUCOPO is integrated by him as president, as vice-presidents; Maurilio Hernandez Gonzalez (Morena) and Enrique Vargas del Villar (PAN); the secretary is Sergio Garcia Sosa (PT), while Omar Ortega Alvarez (PRD), Maria Luisa Mendoza Mondragon (PVEM) and Martin Zepeda Hernandez (MC) will perform as vocals.

In his initial speech, Rescala Jiménez promised to always seek agreements, build bridges both with the different political forces and with the Executive and Judiciary, act with political responsibility and always keep the door open to dialogue and consensus.

“It is an honor that I will have to reciprocate with the certainty that respect and open dialogue will be my priority as president of this political coordination body. Today the president of the Political Coordination Board, like my predecessor, reaches out to each and every one of you and to all of the different expressions to be able to build and manage the board responsibly, with equity, with harmony, with stability, with all those characteristics that we deserve as legislators and that we have to offer to the people of Mexico”, he expressed.

He assured that for the moment there will be no changes within the internal organs of the legislature, but indicated that his work will be evaluated.

After four and a half years of being in charge of the Board, Deputy Maurilio Hernández reported that from September 2022 to March 7, 2023 there was productive work, since more than 300 initiatives were presented, of which 69 have resulted in decree opinions.

“I appreciate the tolerance, I appreciate the perseverance, patience and prudence because all of this is required to do politics, politics is in some way a reflection and an extension of the practice of diplomacy that has to do with resolving our differences with the dialogue, with debate, with deliberation, with the confrontation of ideas, but above all with the purpose of reaching a successful conclusion together”, he exclaimed.

At the same time, he called for overcoming differences and finding coincidences for the good of the citizenry.
