And if the billionaire is best known for buying Twitter – under duress, according to him – this one also owns the Boring Company. The company is working in particular on the design of the Vegas Loopa network of high-speed underground tunnels.
For now, the Vegas Loop is only about 2 miles long, with five stops around the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Boring Company’s original plan was to build a network of tunnels 45 kilometers long with 51 stations. But the municipal authorities have just authorized Elon Musk to extend its network to more than 100 kilometers in lengthfor a total of 69 stations.

The Boring Company plans to dig more tunnels to connect the network to Harry Reid International Airport, at Allegiant Stadium, in downtown Las Vegas and even in Los Angeles. Some of the newly approved stations will be located on the Las Vegas Boulevardnear the airport, as well as in Chinatown, Town Square Las Vegas and Harmon Square.
The concept of the Vegas Loop is to create a fast, efficient and comfortable transport system for passengers traveling through the busiest areas of Las Vegas. The system uses underground tunnels that are designed to transport electric shuttles autonomous at high speed.
Shuttles can carry up to 16 passengers and are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, such as autonomous driving, wireless communication and the electromagnetic braking system. The Vega Loop is supposed to reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissionswhile offering a faster, more comfortable and more environmentally friendly transport alternative to travelers.
