The phones keep ringing at the VAB emergency centre, due to all the calls from northern Italy, the mobility organization which also offers assistance products reported on Tuesday.
“The bad weather in certain regions of Italy and Switzerland is causing an influx of emergency calls,” the VAB explained in a press release. The Lake Garda region, in the north of La Botte, is particularly affected. Many damaged cars were reported there. “Currently, in one day, we have already opened more than 150 cases of customers in difficulty,” said the assistance organization.
Vacationers whose car windscreen is badly damaged by hail cannot leave their resort. Normally, a car is transported to a specialist center to allow the glass to be repaired, but the extent of the bad weather means that this is no longer possible at present. On-site centers are overcrowded and waiting times can reach four weeks.
According to the VAB, it is also difficult to find a replacement car or a return flight. The organization is studying the possibility of taking care of travelers stranded on buses from Belgium.
