In the case of Venezuela, there are at least five states that are in an emergency due to heavy rains. One of them is Bolívar where 1,800 homes are affected by the entry and exit of water.
There, the overflow of the Guaire River caused serious damage, however, the water levels are falling. For now, two temporary shelters are activated where more than 20 families are cared for.
The Vice Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Carlos Pérez Ampueda, reported that tropical wave number 31 became Storm Franklin, generating intense rainfall.
Another of the states that was affected was Táchira, where 75 houses were affected and 17 landslides were registered, Pérez explained to national media. Barinas, Miranda and Aragua also present affectations.
The situation in Chile
According to the latest balance delivered by Chilean relief agencies, the rains in this country have left two dead, including firefighter Joaquín Pérez, who lost his life while trying to save an animal that fell into a river. The other was a driver who had a tree fall on him while he was driving.
The figures for now are 804 affected people, 416 sheltered and 5,509 isolated, La Tercera reported.
Due to the amount of water that has fallen in the central-south zone of Chile since Saturday and the devastating effects, the Chilean government decreed a constitutional state of catastrophe from the O’Higgins Region to the Biobío Region.
According to the Chilean media, the rains have also caused bridges to be cut. In Linares, Maule Region, the Tres Arcos bridge, built in 1931, was damaged and had never suffered any structural damage like the one it presents now.
