Emirates News Agency – CMA Terminals Khalifa Port signs a construction contract with China Port Engineering

ABU DHABI, 25th November, WAM / CMA Terminals Khalifa Port, the joint venture owned by CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, with a stake of 70%, and Abu Dhabi Ports Group, with a stake of 70%, have been signed. 30%, construction contract with China Port Engineering Corporation, for the construction of buildings and special superstructure facilities.

This office building, which won last October the Year Award for the Zero Carbon Buildings Project, is characterized by the highest levels of energy efficiency through its reliance on renewable energy sources and carbon offsets.

In addition, the contract includes the development of 28 buildings dedicated to offices and services, and other facilities within the terminal, as well as paving operations of more than one million square meters, container stacking facilities, quay cranes, and roads.

Work on the terminal is expected to be completed during the first half of 2025, and it will be managed through a joint venture between CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of CMA CGM Group, one of the world’s leading companies providing logistical solutions for land, air and sea freight. Upon completion, the station will have an initial operating capacity of about 1.8 million TEUs and will be directly linked to the Etihad Rail network currently under construction, which supports the unique connectivity capabilities of Khalifa Port and enhances its position as a major gateway to the region on the most important global markets.

With less than 500 completely zero-emissions commercial buildings around the world, the new building, the first of its kind within the facilities of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, represents a milestone in the sustainability efforts of the group and the UAE in general. It will be one of the group’s first projects to use very large quantities of concrete containing recyclable materials, and will save the equivalent of 38,721 tons of CO2 emissions over 30 years.
