Empty Frame from Greece are not newcomers, as the band has been around for more than ten years Underdogs is already the sixth album. Nevertheless, the band probably didn’t choose the title of the current album without reason, because Empty Frame break every musical box. It’s not just the challenging compositions and unusual musical instruments that make the listener come to the conclusion that they are taking part in something very special.

Unusually wide fields

The Greeks are not afraid to combine different musical styles. That’s why any attempt to assign the band’s work to a certain category is doomed to failure. It also seems difficult to make comparisons to other bands in order to describe their style Empty Frame to describe. That’s why there is HERE To start the review, let’s start with the opening track Come Undone listen.

Several trademarks immediately stand out. Most of the singing is in two voices, the atmosphere of the songs is dark and oppressive. Rock music is the foundation on which the band is built. Due to the additional instruments such as violin and cello, very emotional colors also come into play. The additional instruments bring emotions and moods that rock bands otherwise try to achieve with riffs and heaviness. That’s why the repertoire ranges from gothic songs like the opener to songs with folk rock elements Sing Along and Darker Than Blue.

Influences from doom to stoner rock

When it comes to the lyrics, it’s difficult to follow the band in all the details. Interpersonal problems and their effects on society are addressed or better described. That’s why it’s up to every listener to develop their own thoughts and get an idea of the state of Greek society.

Musically, every listener can find themselves in almost every composition. But that is both a blessing and a curse for the band. We get a high-quality and diverse offering, which not every pigeon-holed consumer will understand.

Draw from the full

Nevertheless, the joy remains with me Empty Frame to have found a band that primarily sets emotions to music and incorporates all available facets of rock music.
The harder faction will focus on the riffs of High Plains and that on My Dying Bride remembering A Tribe Of Shadows delight.

Something is out of the ordinary Travellerwhich starts out cinematic and ends in folk rock.
Finally there is the instrumental Mountain Cloud another special snack.
The song sounds experimental, playful and has a clear stoner rock feeling. More spectrum in one album is hardly possible.

Conclusion
Empty Frame offer us a wide and high-quality range of songs with all facets of rock music. Depending on their mood, every listener will find their favorite song on the album.
But this musical openness requires a loyal listener who will then follow along Underdogs is richly rewarded. 8 / 10
