Asked by the Tribune de Genève and 24 Heures, Swisscom spokesman Christian Neuhaus said that “the use of the MMS service has fallen sharply since 2013 (the year of its peak with 63 million MMS sent only on the Swisscom network). MMS has steadily lost interest.’
The Swiss telecommunications giant had already announced last February the cessation of the Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), an abandonment which has been done gradually since March. Since the beginning of this year, the service is no longer available at all.
Sunrise still hesitates
For its part, Sunrise is still feeling a little. “We will observe the situation and the needs of our customers with regard to this service and, if necessary, reassess them later,” a spokeswoman told La Tribune de Genève and 24 Heures.
MMS was launched in the early 2000s. At the time of the boom, each New Year for example, operators and the media regularly relayed statistics on the number of messages thus sent on the networks, in the tens of millions.
