Sothema will buy 40% of Prodimedic

Sothema announces a project to acquire a stake in the capital of PRODIMEDIC, a 100% Moroccan industrial pioneer in the very promising market of Made in Morocco medical devices.

Sothema’s project to acquire a stake in the capital of Prodimedic will amount to 40% with, as a result of this operation, the execution of an ambitious investment plan aimed at setting up a local production unit for medical devices.

“The medical devices market is experiencing promising momentum, with double-digit growth and government plans to promote made in Morocco”, explains Mr. Mohamed Tazi, administrator and executive director of support at Sothema.

And to add: “Morocco still imports 90% of its medical device needs that can be easily manufactured in Morocco. This merger project between Sothema and Prodimedic reflects our policy since our creation, which consists of favoring local manufacturing over imports. »

A wide range of Moroccan products The new production unit will notably manufacture bags, syringes, catheters, medical tubing, etc. It will be located in the urban and industrial center of Had Soualem and will cover an area of ​​6,520 m².

“Through this participation project, Sothema and Prodimedic are part of a participatory approach of Moroccan industry within the framework of the royal initiative to ensure coverage of Moroccan consumption of drugs and medical devices by local manufacturing, and this industrial unit will thus allow Morocco to have independence in relation to these highly strategic products”, underlines Mr. Tazi.

And to conclude: “Prodimedic will strengthen our portfolio of external investments. More than half of Sothema’s growth will come from its external investments over the next 10 years. Remember that Sothema is the national leader in the pharmaceutical industry and one of the champions of African and Arab industry. The 100% Moroccan company has already successfully invested in the local production of medical devices through emergency Covid-19 test kits in response to Morocco’s efforts to deal with the pandemic.
