The first Eurovision semi-final took place in Malmö. Ukraine and Lithuania reached the final

18 of the 37 contestants took part in the semi-finals (in order of appearance): Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, Britain, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Iceland, Germany, Slovenia, Finland, Moldova, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Australia, Portugal and Luxembourg.

Representatives from Great Britain, Sweden and Germany are guaranteed access to the final by the rules of the competition, regardless of the success of their semi-final performance.

Of the remaining 15 participants, five will not be in the final: Azerbaijan, Poland, Iceland, Moldova and Australia were eliminated.

The second semi-final will take place on May 9, the grand final will take place on May 11.

The second semi-final will feature Estonia, Latvia, Georgia, Armenia, the Czech Republic, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Israel, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, San Marino and Switzerland.

The bookmakers’ favorites this year are the Croatian group Baby Lasagna and the Ukrainian duo Alena Alena and Jerry Hale.

The competition conditions are standard: the compositions performed must be original and last no more than three minutes.

No soundtracks: you can only sing live. There can be no more than six dancers and vocalists on stage as a “support group”.

During the break, two-time Eurovision winner (1980 and 1987), Irishman Johnny Logan, took to the stage to pay tribute to another two-time winner, Swede Lauryn, by performing a cover of her triumphant 2012 composition Euphoria.
