Now a driver in Endurance and IndyCar, Romain Grosjean hopes that the calendars will not overlap in 2024 so that he can participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Romain Grosjean is a happy driver. Not at all embittered at having left Formula 1, the king of motorsports, in 2020 after his terrible accident in Bahrain, the 36-year-old driver now thrives in Indycar (with Andretti Autosport) and Endurance (with Lamborghini) . This year, Romain Grosjean is competing in both disciplines, and while waiting for the start of the Indycar season on March 5, he started the Endurance season with the 24 Hours of Daytona last weekend, finishing fourth in the GTD class. Pro alongside Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli and Jordan Pepper. And he had a great time, as he confided to Autosport : « The Lamborghini is very fun to drive. I enjoyed my time with my teammates at Daytona. We did a very good job, finishing fourth and on the same lap as the leader. It was awesome. Endurance is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m lucky to be able to drive in Indycar at the same time and therefore only have to take care of myself, and share an experience like the 24 Hours with my teammates and my team in Endurance”.

Grosjean: “If we can do Le Mans, it would be incredible”

And that’s good, the two calendars juxtapose well, which should allow Romain Grosjean to be able to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year. “The best thing about the IndyCar Championship and IMSA endurance racing is that their schedules don’t collide, so we’re lucky to do both. This year, I did Daytona, I’m going to do Sebring (March 17 in Florida) and probably Petit LeMans (October 14 near Atlanta) in Endurance; next year the program (with the LMDh prototype) includes these races plus the 24 Hours of Le Mans. So I’m going to cross my fingers that we have the weekend off from IndyCar (during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, editor’s note). I think that would make a lot of sense. We were how many, 10 IndyCar drivers at Daytona? I think for both series, it’s amazing. If we can do Le Mans, that would be amazing because it’s just cool. I remember Mario (Andretti) who crossed the Atlantic doing the Monaco GP and the Indy 500 (in Indianapolis, editor’s note)… and these guys, they were racing everywhere – Formula 3, Formula 2, Formula 1 .” Romain Grosjean does not ask for so much…
