This Friday, Enedis announced that 130 million euros in compensation will be paid to customers most affected by the power outages caused by storm Ciaran which hit Brittany on November 1 and 2. According to the electricity distribution network manager, this is a record amount.

1.2 million homes without electricity across France

Current regulations provide that if individuals “remain without electricity for more than 5 hours, they systematically benefit from the payment of a lump sum of 2 euros excluding tax per kVA of power subscribed for each 5 consecutive hours of power outage. electricity, within a limit of 8 days and 8 hours maximum, explained the manager. “The customer does not have to take any action since this procedure is automatic. Enedis pays the sum in question to the electricity supplier who transfers it to the customer’s energy bill,” added Enedis.

In total, 1.2 million homes were deprived of electricity across France, including 780,000 in Brittany, after the passage of storm Ciaran, marked by wind gusts exceeding 170 km/h. In addition to compensation, Enedis indicates that it has mobilized 70 million euros to restore power to customers cut off in Brittany, repair power lines and send equipment and its agents to the disaster areas.
