Energy Policy: Government seeks to increase participation of renewable sources and gas exploitation

Asunción, IP Agency.- With the presentation of the 2025 Energy Policy Plan, the Government seeks to give greater participation to electrical energy from renewable sources in different sectors of the economy and enable the exploitation of natural gas.

Through the regulatory framework of the Renewable Energy Promotion Law, the aim is to introduce new forms of generation within the ANDE National Interconnected System.

With this, a person will be able to generate their own renewable energy, from renewable sources, whether for self-consumption, export or sale to ANDE, indicated the Vice Minister of Mines and Energy of the MOPC, Mauricio Bejarano.

The Government will also promote these energy sources, prioritizing photovoltaic solar energy in Chaco. For the month of June, the first tender for 140 megawatts will be issued for this region, with which ANDE will for the first time acquire energy generated by the private sector, he said in an interview with Paraguay TV.

“Create the regulatory framework so that this continues to happen and then create other energy vectors, or introduce other types of energy into our matrix, such as based on natural gas,” he detailed about the objectives of this policy.

Another source of energy will be natural gas. «We are embarked on building the gas pipeline that links Argentina, in its production in Vaca Muerta, with consumption in Brazil. “We want to generate, from this gas pipeline, the conditions to have an exploration market in Paraguay.”

«We insist on the gas pipeline that will initially link the production of Vaca Muerta with the consumption of the Brazilian market: it would pass next to the Bioceánica and give us the possibility of taking some natural gas and generating electrical energy from that. », he explained.

The exploitation of gas will also allow it to supply industries such as fertilizers, which have a high demand locally and in the State of Matto Grosso do Sul in Brazil.

This mix of energy sources will allow the country to reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons. “We insist on all types of energy as long as we try to seek sustainability, the use of all those natural resources to make this happen,” said Vice Minister Bejarano.
