It was an unusual accident to say the least that occurred this Friday morning, on the banks of the Meuse, near Engis.
Indeed, an octogenarian who had gone fishing got back into his car parked on the bank and then began a U-turn maneuver.
In circumstances still undetermined, the man lost control of his car which spun straight into the Meuse.
As the vehicle sank into the water, the alert was raised and it took just over 10 minutes for Liège firefighters to get to the scene. They got into the water and rescued the unfortunate driver.
The man was brought to shore and taken care of by rescuers. The latter were able to find a pulse, before transporting the victim to the Bois de l’Abbaye hospital. the driver unfortunately lost his life.
