Enigmatic Stone City to which scientists find no answer

Enigmatic Stone City to which scientists cannot find an answer.

Colombia is surrounded by spectacular panoramas, some more visited than others. On the outskirts of San José del Guaviare, for example, you can find what looks like a stone city. In fact, the Colparques Organization explains that there are actually five cities: Ciudad Perdida, Los Túneles, Las Murallas, La Puerta de Orión and Los Puentes Naturales.

Each of these spaces is surrounded by a lot of vegetation, among which the Guaviare flower and the Cananguche palm tree stand out. This is why labyrinths are formed, caves, passageways and thousands of other possible adventures for tourists. However, the clear spectacle is the stones almost 12 meters high.

From what tourists say, there are several forms that can be seen in the large limestone buildings: whales, profiles of human faces, caves, birds, among many other descriptions that they had over the years.

An enigmatic stone city

There is still not much information about who would have inhabited the place in a distant past. There is some research that believes it is likely that certain indigenous communities have lived on that land at some point in history. But it could not be verified. Despite this, there are traces of cave hieroglyphics on some of the stones that are also attributed, without any confirmation, to nomadic communities.

Suspicions that a civilization was there are also given by the way in which the stones are aligned. Some of these appear to have been organized specifically to cut roads or build bridges. As if it was intended to improve mobility through it. However, the most widely heard theory is that it was once a mining entrance.

To get to know this Colombian enigma, you can travel by plane to a nearby point such as the Jorge Enrique González Torres airport, in San José del Guaviare. It can also be reached by car or bus along the road that goes from Villavicencio to the municipality of Calamar.

From there, the road would continue by land. To get there, it is advisable to get a tour guide that includes transportation to the place or pay for a private car from the city that can take you directly in about half an hour, indicates Colparques.

Ideal for long walks

The site in general does not have an infrastructure beyond the stones, but that does not mean that you cannot camp, only that you must bring all the necessary objects for this. In addition, it is important that you take into account the climate of around 30 degrees Celsius in a place in the middle of the humid jungle, so you must bring hydration and adequate clothing to face it. As much as you can enjoy the landscapes, you should also be aware of not polluting the water and picking up your garbage to protect the area.

In addition to this enigmatic city, Guaviare has other natural offerings for tourists who enjoy hiking and other types of outdoor activities. For example, if you enjoy swimming with other creatures, such as freshwater dolphins, there is a lagoon where you can swim.

Its name is Damas del Nare and it is about an hour from San José del Guaviare. There, preferably with an agency that can accompany you, you could swim with the dolphins for around $50, depending on what your trip would include.
