At the European Championships in Frankfurt, two triathletes from TRC 84 Essen buy the ticket to start the World Championships on the Big Island. Why it went according to plan for both of them.

Two triathletes are going to the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October. Isabelle Husken and Tobias Hallebach from the TRC 84 qualified for the title fights on the Big Island at the European Championships in Frankfurt am Main.

The two completed 3.8 km in the Langener Waldsee, 182 km in the Frankfurt area on the bike and finally a marathon in the center of the Main. Isabelle Hüsken swam the second fastest time of the women in the age category with 53:26 minutes. However, she was unable to defend this position on the bike (5:40 hours). She completed the marathon in 3:45 hours and achieved her personal goal of staying under 10:30 hours in a total time of 10:29 hours. Seventh place in her age group was enough to secure a spot for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October.

Hüsken holds out despite problems in the preparation

“I’m particularly happy that I was able to run the marathon despite a longer break from running in preparation,” said Hüsken with satisfaction. “The support at the track was priceless.”

For Tobias Hallebach it was the premiere on the long distance. He left the Langener Waldsee after 56 minutes, which is why he was able to start the rest of the race with a “very positive feeling”. He covered the bike course at an average of 36 kilometers per hour, so that he ran the marathon distance after 5:04 hours. There things went according to plan for the man from Essen, so after 3:15 hours he had a total time of 9:24 hours at the finish.

Hallebach also got a starting place in Hawaii when the World Championship places were awarded in the Frankfurt ice rink and will travel to the Big Island together with Isabelle Hüsken in October.
