Finally, the agency referred to Council Regulation (EU) No. 833/2014 of 31 July 2014, which imposes restrictive measures in connection with Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Now the airline’s planes fly to Russia and Belarus, but all the planes depart in an easterly direction, flying around the Black Sea and without entering EU territory. It is possible that the EU authorities could recognize this company as affiliated with Southwind.

Southwind Airlines was founded in 2022 with the aim of operating flights from Russia to Turkey. As of the summer of 2022, the company’s fleet consisted of four Airbus aircraft – two wide-body A330s and a pair of narrow-body A321s. Last December, German media wrote that Southwind Airlines is Turkish only formally, but is actually controlled by the Russian group Pegas Touristik.
