The prime minister’s decision to vote with only her first name remains the main source of controversy today. The name ‘Giorgia Meloni known as Giorgia’ will appear on the ballot and writing only the first name does not invalidate the vote, according to the current regulations to which sources of the Ministry of the Interior refer, according to which the vote attributed is also valid “using identifying expressions such as diminutives or nicknames, previously communicated to voters, as a way of expressing preference that can be used by any voter”.

In any case “yesterday the Prime Minister presented the electoral program for the European elections: behind her name there is nothing”, attacks the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, according to whom “there is no idea, there is no a vision for Europe that serves people”. The dem leader will “campaign not asking for the vote for me but for the Democratic Party and for this wonderful list that we have built together”. Among the leaders in the running there is also Carlo Calenda, who however admits: “Azione has a list of very competent people”. I’m running “without any pleasure” but “the lists that run with the leaders have extra support”. It still leaves the door open to doubt, however Matteo Renzi: “The parties use the candidatures to count themselves in Italy, we use our candidates to count in Europe”, says the leader of IV, but the party coordinator, Raffaella Paita, explains that about his possible candidacy “tomorrow you will know everything. Anyone of us who runs, in any case, will certainly go to Europe. And this also applies to Renzi”.
