European Farmers Demand CAP Reform: Young Walloon Farmers Stand Up Against Unfair Competition

2024-01-26 07:33:56

It is not only in France that farmers are angry. Thursday evening and last night, young Walloon farmers also “denounced this system which is going on its head” by turning over the signs at the entrance and exit of towns and villages in their regions.

Young Walloon farmers are fed up and have decided to make it known“, indicates the FJA. “The political decisions taken since the 1990s have placed European farmers on a globalized market giving pride of place to excessive competitiveness. However, it is inconceivable to be at the same time the most virtuous agriculture in the world while allowing foodstuffs produced according to much less strict standards to enter Europe, generating unfair competition with European farmers. From CAP reform to CAP reform, the political class adds completely inapplicable regulatory layers. An overhaul of the CAP is essential without delay and without any taboos“, underline the young farmers.

For the FJA, “it is high time to put the farmer back at the center of the European Union’s strategic issues“.

The FJA warns that further actions will take place in the coming days.

Filter dams today

Farmers will express their anger in a convoy in the province of Liège in a snail operation. Hundreds of tractors will set off on the E42 in the direction of Saint-Vith towards Verviers. Departure is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. in Malmedy.

Filter barriers will be created this Friday around 11:30 a.m. at the Vaches roundabout in Battice, in the province of Liège, but also on the motorway.

From Monday, actions should be carried out almost everywhere in Wallonia.
