Euthanasia is now legal in many countries. Euthanasia has always been a subject of controversy, even with legal consent. Euthanasia is being raised as a consolation for patients who are convinced they will never be able to return to life, and to patients who are convinced their lives are full of pain. However, a large section of people argue that it is wrong for the law to allow a person to take a life.

A sixty-year-old man has now publicly walked to his death with the permission of the law, making history in Colombia. Victor Escobar suffered for a long time from serious lung disease, diabetes, heart disease and many other health problems.

In an interview with Victor Escobar before his death, he said that not only was he suffering, but that his family was suffering because of him.

Lately, Escobar has been in a state where he can’t even breathe. After a long struggle, the legal system bowed to his demand.

So Escobar walked publicly to his death on Friday after being first given sedatives in the presence of relatives and loved ones. Witnessing the cameras, witnessing so many people and wanting to be euthanized was his own wish.

Escobar told the media that euthanasia was a real relief to patients like him and that it should not be prohibited by law, and that if his life was to create a significant awareness on the subject, it was to publicize his death.

‘Slowly but surely, everyone is coming to terms with this. That’s why I do not say goodbye. I will see you again. We will all one day belong to God … ‘- This was Escobar’s last message.

Although euthanasia is legal in Colombia, it is not easy to obtain. No other Latin American country currently endorses euthanasia.
