Actually, major events are allowed again. Actually, the appointment calendar is full again. But the event industry is still not getting back on its feet after the two-year break. There is a lack of staff and equipment.
“It’s a total disaster,” says Joel Meier, organizer of the Street Parade «NZZ». Many stage technicians or scaffolders had looked for another job during the pandemic and had not returned. Hourly wage earners are also difficult to find – most of them wanted to party after a two-year break.
In addition, Meier is looking for drinks suppliers, toilet houses and suitable sponsors. Another problem: Only in February, when the Federal Council finally approved major events again, could the event organizers make binding plans again. That meant a five-month delay for the Street Parade. The organization for the following year usually begins shortly after the event in August.
prices are increasing
As if that weren’t enough hurdles, the rising prices in the event industry are also causing problems. “Almost everything has become 10 to 20 percent more expensive,” complains Meier. The Street Parade budget will probably increase by half a million francs. The Caliente, a Latin festival in Zurich, is therefore reducing the number of participants this year. The Zurich Knabenschiessen in September, on the other hand, is already planning again with an event like before the pandemic. (lui)
