Formed in the city of Kingston upon Hull in England in the early 1980s, this duo on stage and in life is made up of singer and songwriter Tracey Thorn and singer and guitarist Ben Watt.

Between 1984 and 1994, their albums navigated mainly between folk, jazz and Latin-pop before taking a monumental electronic turn following the worldwide success of the single “Missing” in 1994. A hit that owes its success to the remix of American DJ Todd Terri.

A new album to evoke broken dreams

Everything But The Girl’s last album, “Temperamental”, dated from 1999. Today, the couple released “Fuse”, a disc in which we find the titles “Nothing Left to Lose”, “Caution to the Wind” ” When You Mess Up” or “Run a Red Light”, songs that evoke both the feeling of having to start all over again or seeing your dreams crumble.

The lyrics to “Run a Red Light,” for example, paint a picture of a man daydreaming about his moment of glory to come, when his vulnerability will eventually crush all his good intentions.

“Fuse”, an emotional fusion

The themes of this new album echo the years of absence of the British group.

Missing from the musical radar for almost twenty-five years, Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt must have wondered how to return to tickle the ears of the public after two decades. A great challenge coupled with a lot of pressure, and which they transformed into a game: “There was both friction and a natural spark”, let go of the two thinking heads in a press release.

During all this time, both, each on their side, have developed personal projects, ranging from the creation of albums or books. And yet, when they returned to the studio together during confinement, the fuse was still well and truly lit. And “until emotional fusion”, even adds the duo. An emotion that inspired them the title of their new album “Fuse”.
