Herman Gerland, currently assistant coach with the German U21 national team, has now broken away from some of his previous behavior as a coach. “My style doesn’t work anymore. I used to be too dogged, got loud and scolded. I wouldn’t do that anymore today,” said the 67-year-old at “ran.de”.
According to Gerland, he had to become more relaxed as an assistant coach Hansi Flick and especially from Jupp Heynckes learned: “Especially Heynckes used to be just as obsessed and dogged as I was.”

And added: “During my career, I’ve worked with Champions League winner coaches like Van Gaal or Flick worked together. I always paid close attention to them, so I learned a lot from them. Gerland was assistant coach until June 2021 FC Bayern and a total of 25 years with the record champions. During this time he worked with both Jupp Heynckes and Hansi Flick.
