Exceptional transfers: 3.7 billion francs to 42,277 households in Thiès

Mbour, May 16 (APS) – A total of 46,277 households in the Thiès region, including 18,746 in the department of Mbour (west) will benefit from cash transfers of around 3.7 billion francs at the initiative of President Macky Sall, said Monday, the Minister in charge of Community Development, Social and Territorial Equity

“For the Thiès region, 46,277 households are concerned while in Mbour department, 18,746 households will receive a cash transfer in the days following. That is a total amount of 3,702,160 CFA francs for the Thiès region and 1,499,680,000 CFA francs for the Mbour department,” assured Samba Ndiobène Kâ.

It was officially launching exceptional cash transfer operations for households registered in the Unified National Register (RNU). An activity organized at the municipal stadium of Mbour.

”The fight against social inequalities has been and remains at the heart of President Macky Sall’s priorities. Since his accession to power, he has made the mobilization of national solidarity a priority to fight against poverty and improve the living conditions of the populations through better access to basic social services,” said the minister.

Among other things, he cited the establishment of a national social protection system with the aim of restoring social and territorial equity.

”Thanks to the combined efforts of the government, populations and partners, the poverty rate is falling in our country, as demonstrated by the results of a harmonized survey on household living conditions (EHCVM) financed by the World Bank. and according to which, the poverty rate stood at 37.8% against 42.8% in 2011, a decrease of 05 percentage points”, argued Mr. Kâ.

According to him, the government of Senegal has made a lot of efforts through the projects and programs developed to fight against poverty and strengthen the resilience of poor households to shocks.

He insisted on the fact that since 2013, more than 316,000 beneficiaries spread throughout the territory receive a quarterly grant of 25,000 francs each year, in addition to support in the fields of health, education and civil status

”To strengthen the resilience of households following the Covid-19 pandemic, my department had mobilized 69 billion CFA francs for the purchase of 146,000 tonnes of foodstuffs, distributed to vulnerable households as part of food aid. emergency,” he said.
