Helldivers 2 is PlayStation’s biggest hit on PC and is available exclusively on two platforms. Sony made sure that the Swedish studio did not release the game on Xbox.
Phil Spencer spoke with the editors of Game File and during the interview touched on the situation with Helldivers 2. In his opinion, the exclusivity of the game makes absolutely no sense. The boss of Microsoft Gaming believes that coming to Xbox would help everyone.
“I have to say that when I look at a game like Helldivers 2 – and it’s a great game, kudos to the team for releasing it on PC and PlayStation – I don’t really understand who in the industry is helped by the fact that it’s not on Xbox. I would like to convince myself and conclude that this helps someone in some way.”
Spencer admitted that he understands the situation, because the legacy of consoles is not deprived of the aspect of exclusive games. He confirmed that his company does the same.
“But I understand. There’s a tradition in console gaming that we benefit by releasing games rather than by putting them elsewhere. We do the same.”
It looks like the Xbox community shouldn’t even consider releasing Helldivers 2 on Microsoft hardware. PlayStation plans to release strong exclusives only on PC and PS5, and the game from Arrowhead Game Studios is warmly received by fans of cooperative projects.
