The Brussels-West police zone confirms that an incident did indeed take place on June 1 between young people belonging to a school located in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and police officers from the zone, who were in private activity with colleagues.
During these incidents, several people were injured, including two police officers very seriously, underlines the police zone. So that all the light is shed on the responsibility of each other, the Namur public prosecutor’s office entrusted the investigation to a specialized external investigation service.
“As head of the corps, I reminded all staff of the need to adopt exemplary behavior at all times, including in their private lives, and I communicated instructions internally in order to maintain a working climate. operational serenity within the police zone”, explains Luc Ysebaert.
“Depending on the results of the investigation, appropriate measures will be taken according to each person’s responsibilities. I understand the emotion that this affair arouses within the population, nevertheless, I hope that serenity will be restored and that our relationship with the public, and young people in particular, will be preserved. »
“There have been attempted drownings”
The day after this revelation, RTL info reveals the testimony of a student present at the scene at the time of the altercation, as well as that of her mother. “The first shot went off, a policeman hit the student. As they did not know it was the police, the boyfriend came to intervene and gave the second shot, ”says the mother.
During this altercation, violent blows were exchanged and racist comments were made by the police. “The police were heavily drunk, they were not in their normal state,” says the student, still in shock, interviewed by RTL. “From there, it went into a fight: there were drowning attempts and racist remarks like ‘Band of dirty Moroccans'”.
